Training for Child Care Providers

Sanford Children's CHILD Services partners with the City of Sioux Falls to provide quality education and direct service assistance to family child care providers in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

All family child care providers in the city must be registered with the Sioux Falls Health Department, have current CPR and first aid certifications, and commit to a minimum of six hours of training per year. Sanford Children's CHILD Services offers classes that help providers meet their yearly educational requirements.

Professional Development Classes

Sioux Falls child care providers who are registered with the City of Sioux Falls Department of Health have access to a variety of professional development classes through Sanford Children’s CHILD Services. Classes are available in person and online and cover a variety of topics, including:

Child guidance and emotional wellbeing
Child growth and development
Family, school and community partnerships
Health, safety and nutrition
Learning environment, planning and curriculum
Observation, documentation and assessment
Professionalism and leadership
Program administration

Heartsaver CPR AED

This video-based, instructor-led course teaches adult, child and infant CPR and AED use, as well as how to relieve choking. This course teaches skills with the American Heart Association’s practice-while-watching technique, which allows instructors to observe students and provide feedback. Learn more.

Certified First Aid

The American Heart Association's Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid course offers pediatric first aid training for child care providers. Providers will learn how to manage illness and injuries while waiting for professional help to arrive. Learn more.
